What a wonderfully dark book. This goes on my short list of books everyone should read, along with Fahrenheit 451, Cat's Cradle, and A Clockwork Orange. I don't know what my fascination is with doom, but these books all have something relevant to say about the darker side of the direction in which the world seems to be headed.
